Changing one’s gender is a more intricate process than simply altering a name or surname by Deed Poll. In the UK, to have your acquired gender legally recognized, you must apply to the Gender Recognition Panel for a Gender Recognition Certificate.
Transgender individuals may also consider applying for a Statutory Declaration for Change of Name. This document, similar to a Deed Poll, declares a name change but must be created and signed in the presence of a UK Solicitor, Notary Public, or another legally authorized individual.
We advise you to instruct a solicitor for assistance with this process. You can find an accredited solicitor through the Law Society.
